You can marry into families or marry someone from another family. This How To Get Married In Mount & Blade II Bannerlord gives a very detailed step-by-step guide on exactly how to get married in Bannerlord so you can your spouse can reign over your brand new kingdom together.

This is one of the more time consuming parts of the process. You need to find a suitable person in order to marry. Thankfully standards are pretty low in the world of Mount & Blade so the single aspect you should be concerned about, are they single?

You must travel to a Castle or a large town. You then need to request to see the Lords room. You don’t have to go inside, just request to speak with someone. This will show all of the current inhabitants at the top of the screen. Select an appropriate member of the opposite sex (I have no idea if same sex marriage is in the game) and right click. This will bring up that persons Encyclopedia entry. Scroll down to the Family section. Here you will see if they are already married (with a spouse). If they are already married, the option to marry them is not available. Either check somewhere else or perhaps go for a daughter or son.

I finally found a potential spouse that wasn’t married. This was after I completely failed on the daughter of my first target.

Step 2: The Courting Game

Once you have found a suitable spouse, the hard work begins. You must win over their favor. There are different parts of the process, each can be failed and lead to another potential opportunity. However, fail too many dialogue options or requests, and the person will refuse to speak about the matter again, forcing you to return to Step 1 of the master plan of marriage.

When you speak with the person in question, tell them you have something to discuss and then select “My lad, I wish to profess myself your most ardent admirer” before offering your hand in marriage. She will tell you that you should spend some time together first. Leave the castle and save the game. Go straight back inside and choose “So.. I’m glad to have the chance to spend some time together”.

Now you have a conversation mini-game, and this is why we left and saved a moment ago. This is based on your social stats and chance. Just aim for the highest yellow arrow for the highest success rate and hope you pass all three. If you do not, reload and try again. Once you are successful, leave and save the game. You then need to pass time, 1-2 in-game days, and speak with her again.

Complete another mini-game. Succeed. Save.

Step 3: The In-Laws

The dreaded in-laws. Before you are able to finally marry, you must get permission from the persons liege. This can be confusing and lengthy, depending on a bit of luck. Speak with your future spouse about their liege, they will respond with some words and a name in blue. Right click the name and this will bring up the persons Encyclopedia entry. On the top right it will say “Last seen near XX”. Click the name of the location and then track it.

Now it’s just a matter of tracking down the target. It can be easy, it can be a huge pain. Once you track down the target speak with them and select “I wish to discuss the final terms of my marriage with Anidha”. This brings up a bartering screen. There’s probably a lot of options here but as I’m usually swimming in money, I’d just pay the Denars. Add things to the bartering window until the gift icon turns green, this shows you have enough to pay for the marriage.

Once you have purchased your partner, you are married. If you want to bring them with you, return to where your wife or husband is and click their portrait at the location. You can choose to Take Hero to Party and they will travel with you as a normal Companion would.

Now, why not fully commit to ruining your life entirely? Here’s a guide on how to have kids in Bannerlords.
