Mount and Blade 2: Bannerlord Marriage - How to Get (1)

At the start of Mount and Blade 2: Bannerlord, your character doesn’t have a whole lot to their name aside from an unimpressive steed and weapon. Conquest, negotiation and marriage can, however, see them leading an entire kingdom with a spouse and heirs at their side.

As it can be an arduous process, we’ve gathered everything you need to know about marriage in Mount and Blade 2: Bannerlord in this guide, which details the steps you need to take in order to get a husband or wife for your character.

The path towards marriage in Mount & Blade 2: Bannerlord begins with finding a suitable spouse. When near a castle or a large town, either head to the Lords Hall or select the person you want to pursue from the row of portraits at the top of the screen.

You might have to visit a few castles or large towns at different times before you find one that’s not empty; persistence is key.

Right-clicking people of the opposing sex opens up their Encyclopedia page which lets you see whether or not they’re married. Polygamy isn’t a thing in Mount & Blade II: Bannerlord at the moment.

Start by asking to discuss with them, tell them you’re an ardent admirer of theirs and that you wish to offer your hand in marriage; then, the courting phase begins. During it, you have to win over your future spouse through various dialogue options. Picking the wrong choices can lead to the character losing interest in you, so tread carefully.

After expressing your interest to marry them, select the dialogue option that mentions spending time together. This will kick off a conversation minigame during which you’ll have to put your character’s skills to use. You’ll have to select the correct option two or three times.

Don’t worry about having to guess the right choices, though, as yellow arrows and red X marks will show the chance of both success and failure of each dialogue option. Naturally, the highest yellow number offers the best chance of success, however, luck won’t always be on your side.

By default you’ll need to complete the minigame successfully a few times before you can progress towards marriage in Mount & Blade 2: Bannerlord, however, some players have reported getting lucky with persuasion checks that expedited the whole process.

Having won over your future spouse, there’s one more step before you can marry, and it involves asking for permission from their father or family leader, whose whereabouts you can learn by asking your future spouse.

After you know who you’re supposed to track down as well as where they were last seen, you’ll have to go off on a chase which can be over quickly or last for quite a while, depending on where you are and how well you guess your target’s route through Calradia.

Thankfully, once you do reach the father or family head, you simply need to barter to secure the marriage. Add enough items or money to fill the bar on the left side of the dialog box to and you’re now married without having to go through any additional steps like wedding ceremonies.

Marriage in Mount & Blade II: Bannerlord has a couple of benefits. Your spouse and their party will automatically move into your clan. As long as they don’t have an army, you’ll find them in one of your cities or castles. Should they have an army, they’ll likely lead it, although you’ll be the one paying their upkeep.

You can also have your spouse fight alongside you or oversee holdings; just keep track of what they excel at by checking their skills.

Not only can marriage result in an heir which you end up playing as should your character die in battle or of old age, but it also transfers over items in the possession of your spouse which you can then do with as you deem fit.

Mount & Blade II: Bannerlord is now available in Steam Early Access. Check out all its troop trees and console commands.
