What is the Canon law 1210? ›

1210 Only those things which serve the exercise or promotion of worship, piety, or religion are permitted in a sacred place; anything not consonant with the holiness of the place is forbidden. In an individual case, however, the ordinary can permit other uses which are not contrary to the holiness of the place.

The sanctuary is the location of the altar in all churches and of the tabernacle in most. As such, it is considered sacred space and cannot be used in the manner of a simple public space.

That said, a good parish is one where people encounter Christ in each other, in liturgy, in the community, in service to others, and in prayer. They should then feel enabled to respond positively to God and share their faith with others in their daily life, in some way (verbally and/or non-verbally).

In other words, the mission of the Church, and therefore of every parish, is to save souls. The way to save souls is to baptize them, to provide the other sacraments as needed, and to instruct them in faith and morals—that is, teach them to observe all that Our Lord has commanded us.

According to the Code of Canon Law, Catholics can indeed elope…But it's not what you think. Elopement means getting married in secret. Romeo and Juliet are the most famous examples of this behavior. They are a tragically romanticized example of running away to secretly be with your love.

Diocesan priests generally work in parishes to which they are assigned by their bishop. Religious priests, such as Dominicans, Jesuits, or Franciscans, work as members of a religious community and teach, doing missionary work, or engage in other specialized activities as assigned by their superiors.

Parishes are essential sources of support and encouragement for Christian discipleship. At their best, parishes help believers prepare and go forth to live the Gospel in everything we do. The Sunday liturgy sends us forth to renew the earth and build up God's kingdom of justice and peace.

Canon 1131.

Permission to celebrate a marriage in secret involves: 1° that the investigations to be made before the marriage are carried out in secret; 2° that the secret in regard to the marriage which has been celebrated is observed by the local Ordinary, by whoever assists, by the witnesses and by the spouses.

1056 The essential properties of marriage are unity and indissolubility, which in Christian marriage obtain a special firmness by reason of the sacrament. Can. 1057 §1. The consent of the parties, legitimately manifested between persons quali-fied by law, makes marriage; no human power is able to supply this consent.
