We are in the last part of July, and Martin Necas is still a member of the Carolina Hurricanes, not the Montreal Canadiens.

There has been a lot of noise around the Czech player since the Canes' elimination.

Trade rumors and speculation about an offer sheet have been circulating on social media about him.

The new GM of the team, Eric Tulsky, recently gave an update regarding his player.

According to him, Necas will be a member of the Canes next fall.

«For now, he is a restricted free agent with us, heading toward arbitration where he will get a one- or two-year contract with us. And he will play for us. If something happens in the meantime, then it will happen, but for now, I expect him to be with us next year.»

- Eric Tulsky

Wow, quite a statement.

At the same time, if he said otherwise, he would completely destroy Necas's trade value on the market, so it makes perfect sense.

Nonetheless, the forward still doesn't have a contract, as he is a restricted free agent.

What could be the value of the 25-year-old?

A contract around 6 million dollars per year for Martin Necas?

Cory Lavalette, a journalist for The Athletic covering the Carolina Hurricanes, discussed Necas's future contract with Jason Gregor.

According to him, the forward is not suited to play in Carolina because he doesn't fit Rod Brind'Amour's playing style.

«He is so fast with the puck, but watching him back check and not tighten up defensively can be frustrating. If he wants to play in Carolina, he will have to understand that he needs to play intensely with and without the puck.»

- Cory Lavalette

The journalist does not see Necas staying with the Canes for very long.

For this reason, according to him, both sides are leaning towards a one-year deal worth around $5.5M to $6M. It would be a bargain for the Hurricanes (but they risk losing him again next summer).

It's reminiscent of the Winnipeg Jets with Pierre-Luc Dubois.

Necas, who has the potential to score 30 goals for several seasons, will need to prove that he can play intensely without the puck. It will be a test year, with a salary that, admittedly, is low for his offensive potential, to prove that he can really play in the center position.

In the event of failure, it would not be surprising if Tulsky makes calls to his counterparts to trade Necas. Kent Hughes will surely be on the lookout at that time.

Major update and a signing for Martin Necas and the Hurricanes

As we mentioned earlier, the Carolina Hurricanes have signed Martin Necas to a two-year, $6.5 million per year contract. This deal is a bargain for the Canes and proves Necas's importance to the team and his potential to drive their success in the coming seasons.
